Secret of Monkey Island |
Part I - The Three TrialsGo past the ocean and into the first door you come too (the Scumm Bar). In the first bit, talk to the 3 singular pirates in the room (to get an idea of what is going on) then go past the curtain and talk to the 3 important looking pirates. Find out about the 3 trials and what they entail. Wait until the chef comes out of the kitchen and goes past the curtain then nip in. In the kitchen, pick up the meat and put it in the stew pot. Pick up the pot underneath the table and pick up the stewed meat from the stew pot. Go out to the pier bit at the back and stand on the boards a few times to get the seagull to fly away and pick up the fish. Head back up past the look-out post and out into the forest. Walk to the clearing in the forest with the tent. Talk to the Fettuccini brothers and agree to do the trick (use the pot as your helmet) and get the money. Once back in the forest, head for the house on the track with the strange lights. You get stopped by the troll - give him the fish. Once you get to the house, knock on the door and get taught how to sword fight. Once you can sword fight, go out into the forest and find some pirates to challenge. The idea is; that you get them to say lines you have not heard, then use those lines with the next pirate to get the reply. I have summarised some of the responses below: (you still have to find these out, this is just for reference)
Once you have these learned you can use them on the Sword Master of Mêlée Island; Head back into town, go to the man on the corner and buy the map to the treasure. Go into the door on the right (the Voodoo lady's shop). Pick up the rubber chicken and talk to her if you want. Keep heading up under the clock and go into the jail (third door). Talk to Otis and find out he need breath mints. Now go to the store (first door past the arch). Talk to the store keep and get the mints, sword and shovel. Ask him about the sword master of Meleé and get him to go and ask if she will see you - she won't so just follow him to find the way. He leads you into the forest, pick up the yellow flowers as you pass them. When you get to the Sword Master, challenge her to a fight. A summary of some of the possible responses are listed below:
Once you come back out to the forest, go back into the fork again. Follow the instructions on the map you got (back is to the top of the screen, left is left etc.). Use the shovel on the X and get the T-shirt. Head back to the town. Use the yellow flower with the stewed meat and head to the Governor's mansion (right throught the town and on through the 2 arches). Use the meat with the poodles and put them to sleep and go into the mansion and into the first door on the right. Once you come out of the room, go back to Otis in the jail. Give Otis the breath mints and also the Gopher Repellent that you picked up in the mansion. He will give you the cake. Use the cake and get the file. Go back to the mansion and through the hole you made. You pick the idol automatically. Head back to the 3 pirates to give them the booty. Talk to the chef and pick up all the tankards. Get grog in one of them and as you wanlk through the town and the cup melts, transfer the grog to a new one. Head for the jail and break Otis out. Now go to the Sword masters and tell her Elaine has been kidnapped and get her to join the crew. Go to Meathooks house on the far side of the island and use the rubber chicken on the cable to get over. Tell him Elaine has been kidnapped and gets you to touch his Parrot (in a non-euphemistic sense). Now we go to Stan's (the strange lights) and try to get a boat... First get ask him about the crappy boat at the bottom. Then tell him you don't have enough money and then go for the credit note option. Now go back into town and ask the Storekeeper about a credit note. When he goes to the safe, note down the combination, then ask him to go get the sword master. He goes out, then you nab the credit note from the safe. Now head back to Stan and go through all the extras malarky till you have the boat. |
